Sharing Love...

Research Project: “Love and Song.” - Philipp

A friend of mine has got a recording gadget which is possible to record different tracks of your voice which you can put all together in the end, and if you want to, is possible to change the order. So I would like to create some kind of a love song but only with the input of my voice and start with recording one base line which is looping the whole time. But even this base line can already exist of different lines put together. I want to be this base the source of everything what in my case is love. In Germany we have this wonderful word “Ursuppe” which means something like primordial soup. So this is an unknown mass out of which every existing life begins to arise. So because our projects are all about love, this mass is love. So I put my base down to the two sides of love.

The first is love as something that makes us live, that keeps us alive and that’s just a wonderful great emotion. The second part is love as a big force which lets us suffer more than anything else, which makes us cry and loose our lust for live. So I have the idea to put these two sides in my base which could mean for example starting with groaning, sighing voices which increase constantly get louder and louder end up in a beautiful harmony at first and finally began to cry painfully and shout.    I will take this part and loop it several times.

Now I have to search love songs. I would like to take some songs from my personal music collection and some older love songs probably some of the very well-known.

And then I will take just some lines out of these songs, in which has to appear the word love, it can be the substantive or the verb. So now I want to put these lines over my base, I might have to change the melody a little bit otherwise the harmony won’t fit, but I’m not quite sure about this so far.

So there are many possibilities in which order you put these “love-lines”. You can put them in unhappy and happy love songs, just admix them, create new lyrics, make a contrast to the baseline

or let them run parallel to the base.

So my questions will be, is love positive or/and negative, or both at the same time? Does love exist in a “totally happy” version? Are there people who are not able to love in a happy way? Does love from the beginning on include a bad side? Is it just destiny or is it something that lies in everyone’s own hand? What can we do to be happily in love?

So  I want to put both sides in my song, maybe I let it end with a beautiful choir or just let it end without an answer for the listeners and let it open because everyone has to find a possible solution on their own.    And it’s up to you what are you doing with love.
